How To Buy Pearl Jewelry

When shopping for pearl jewelry, consider the factors that affect the value. This includes the luster, the thickness, the shape, the texture, the size and the color. Understand that the luster refers to the glow or brilliance of the finish. High quality pearls have a high shine.   Be aware of the shape of the pearls. Look for very round ones that have a smooth texture or surface that is not marred by imperfections.   Understand that the size of pearls is measured in millimeters. Try on different sizes to see what suits you best.   Also try on different pearl lengths. The most popular styles are in the 17 to 19 inch length range, which is very versatile and goes with many outfits.   Consider buying a graduated strand of pearls with the largest in the center and then getting progressively smaller toward the clasp.   Realize that pearls come in different colors. Some of the most popular options include shades of white, cream, gold and black.   Whether you are buying a pair of earrings or a necklace, make sure that the pearls match each other well, which adds to the value.   Shop around and look at the four types of cultured pearls that exist: Akoya pearls are the most affordable and appeal to a wide range of people with their high quality and luster. Other options include black Tahitian pearls and South Sea Pearls, which come with a golden tint or in white, or freshwater pearls, the least expensive choice.   Understand that pearls come in different grades: AAA and AAA+ quality are the highest quality. For less expensive options, try A or AA.   Just as the range of pearls is large, so is the quality and price range. Look for pearls at fine jewelry stores, online stores and auctions.   Make sure you know your maximum price range and look at the options within this range to get the most for your money.   Don’t limit your jewelry searching to one place. Different jewelers carry different selections, so shop around to see what is out there.   Ask about the grade of pearls before you buy and request documentation of the value.   Lay the strand of pearls flat on the velvet case to look for any blemishes before you close the deal.   Make sure that if an outside appraiser doesn’t agree with the valuation of the pearls, you can get your money back  How to Clean Pearls:  Don’t put on your pearls until after you’ve put on your makeup, perfume and lotions. This will prevent these products from building up on your jewelry.   Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe your pearls after you take them off.   Consider buying a special cleaning solution that is formulated specifically for pearls.   You can also ask a jeweler to professionally clean them for you.   If your pearls have become dull, use a damp cloth to gently pat them clean, then let them dry flat.   To return the luster, wipe the pearls with a little olive oil on a cloth. This should bring the shine back.   How to Care for Pearls:  Realize that pearls are very delicate so handle them with care to ensure they will last so you can hand them down to future generations. Store them away from any other jewelry, as other gemstones can scratch them.   Select a velvet-lined jewelry box with separate compartments or keep them in a silk pouch.   Check the silk cord that holds the pearls regularly to be  sure it is not fraying.   Every year or two, ask a professional jeweler to restring your strand of pearls.   Insist on using pure silk thread or a nylon necklace cord. Both are strong and durable.   Ask to have your pearls individually knotted. This will prevent the pearls from rubbing against each other and will also protect them if the cord were to break.   If you prefer a more modern look, instead of having pearls strung on a rope, ask for them to be strung on a wire instead.   Caution: Never put your pearls on top of your television or radiator. The heat can change the color. Quick Tips: Only use a cleaner that says it is safe for pearls. Anything else can harm the fragile texture. Store your pearls flat so the string does not get stretched.

2. A legend known for her diamonds, not surprisingly, also loves pearls. Actress Elizabeth Taylor owns one of the world’s most famous pearls, the La Peregrina pearl, which was given to her in 1969 by then-husband Richard Burton. This very large, pear-shaped white pearl was found by a slave in the early 1500s in the Gulf of Panama. The magnificent gem was owned by a long line of royalty, starting with Mary Tudor, the daughter of King Henry VIII, before Burton purchased it at auction for Taylor. Interestingly, Taylor once misplaced the famous La Peregrina pearl in her white-carpeted home. After an extensive search, guess where the pearl was found? In one of her beloved dog’s mouths.

The Meaning of Pearl Jewelry

Birthstone for June, pearls jewelry are recognized as the emblem of modesty, chastity and purity. They have also come to symbolize a happy marriage and hence it is no wonder that freshwater pearl ring is much preferred by girls during their engagement days or by brides as their primary jewelry. Besides, pearls are the only gems created by a living organism having an array of fascinating colors, shapes, sizes and origin and hence have a charm of its own. Pearl jewelry is often found as family heirlooms, passed on from a grandmother to mother and from a mother to the daughter. Being the most magical and feminine of all gems, pearl jewelry has long been considered as one of the most romantic items that can be gifted to a lady. As a matter of fact, freshwater pearl sets go beautifully well with any neckline, whatever the attire could be.

However, natural pearls are rare and their price tags forbid many and so, most of the freshwater pearl brooches sold now is made of cultured pearls though one could hardly tell the difference between a good quality cultured pearl and a natural pearl.

Cultured pearls come in two primary forms – pearls that are grown in saltwater and those that are cultured in freshwater. Since saltwater cultured pearls are much higher in quality as compared to their freshwater cousins, saltwater cultured pearl jewelry is much more expensive. Cultured pearl jewelry is usually available as pearl necklace, pearl earrings, pearl pendants, pearl rings, pearl bracelets and so on. Pearl jewelry forms a perfect wedding present, birthday or Christmas gift. Also, it can work as a classic accessory for the bride in the form of a superb bridal pearl set consisting of pearl earrings and a finely crafted pearl necklace.

Cultured pearls come in a wide array of colors, shapes and sizes and their assortments are equally fascinating from wholesale pearls jewelry store. To satisfy the customer craze, jewelers produce such artistic costume jewelry ranging from smallish Akoya pearls to big black Tahitian pearls, Japanese Mikimoto pearls, South Sea pearls and the spherical Mabe pearls – each of these items seem as good as the other, making the buyer spoilt for choices. And that is why purchasing pearl jewelry can be a tricky business if you are not fully familiar with the various available options, quality and the price structure of the various kinds of pearls. So perhaps the best way to secure pearl jewelry is to buy from a source that offers a return warranty if at least the quality is not satisfactory.

Incidentally, there was a time when pearl jewelry was rated as one of the highest priced items but with the advent of widespread pearl farming now, the price of pearl jewelry has become quite affordable to most people.

We are mainly wholesale pearls jewelry like freshwater pearl jewelry, coral jewelry, shell jewelry, turquoise jewelry, shell pearl jewelry and sterling silver jewelry, also wholesale pearl necklace, pearl earrings, pearl ring, pearl pendant, pearl brooches and pearl jewelry sets. pearl necklace, pearl bracelet, pearl earrings, pearl ring, pearl pendant, pearl brooches and pearl sets.

1920′s costume… does this sound like a good one?

I am attending a 1920′s themed New Year’s Eve Party. This is the outfit that I have picked out so far. . . what do you think?

I have a little jacket with short sleeves that stops right under the bust. It is completely covered in brown sequins. I then would wear a pink tank top under it. I have a long plain brown skirt and a pink feather boa. I would curl my hair and stick a few pink feathers in it. I have tan shoes with a chunky heel that look sort of “1920-ish”. For jewelry I have a pearl necklace with 4 different-lengthed strands.

How does that sound?

Does anyone have ideas for makeup?

Should I wear leggings/tights or something?

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you!
I’m not wearing the “heels” I described above. I don’t know what I am going to wear for sure for shoes. . . .
